International standard IEC 61215

May 17, 2013
International Standard IEC 61215 includes the examination of all ageing and wear parameters and other photovoltaic module tests in which the modules are subjected to various "loads" and artificial environmental conditions.

These include, to mention just a few:
  • sunlight,
  • UV rays,
  • external climate (climate change, extreme cold, extreme heat, humidity),
  • mechanical loads (snow, wind pressures, wind resistance, etc.).
The tests are deemed passed if, following testing, there are no obvious visual defects on the modules and the output power is reduced by a value of 0, or near to 0 based on the initial value.

International Standard IEC 61215 is the true symbol of quality of crystalline silicon PV panels and in some countries (like Italy) it is REQUIRED in order to design and build photovoltaic systems, as well as to obtain the incentives offered by the Energy Act.
