Regarding "human safety" and the external mechanical stress reliability of photovoltaic modules, IEC 61646 and IEC 61215 did not suffice and therefore it was decided to certify the modules separately for these particular aspects, setting out the essential requirements therefor in IEC 61730.
The standard consists of two parts:
- Construction requirements: where the minimum requirements for materials, components and design aspects are established.
- Test requirements: which sets out all the essential test conditions.
