Retrofit, here is the solution: SOLAREDGE

Jul 25, 2013
How to extract more power from existing plants, thanks to the SolarEdge power optimizers.

Many plants produce less than budgeted, due to power loss generated by factors of different nature. Some are related to the same panel, other by external agents.

The conventional inverters calculate the MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) for the entire string. Due to the decoupling between the modules, the weakest influence the production of the entire string or are bypassed.
If a module within a string has a current lower than the other, the whole string receives the lower current = power loss.

CAUSES of DECOUPLING:

  • Temperature changes (losses of up to 2%)
  • Uneven aging (annual losses of 12:12%)
  • Partial shading (losses from 2% to 25%)
  • Manufacturing tolerance (loss of 3-5%)
  • Dirty (loss of 3% -6%)

Power optimizers reduce energy losses thanks to MPPT at the module level:

the current and the voltage of each module is adapted so as to have the same current that circulates on the entire string
